double neon

Sweater: Nordstrom BP / Jeans: Madewell / Bag: Nordstrom

Ladies and gents, meet my new neon satchel!

I'm in love.
And, I dared to go double neon.  I like how it turned out, but it was kind of one of those things where the water is cold and you just gotta jump.

That is all.
{I know, I know, shortest blog post ever.}

Succinct and to the point.

Oh, and on another note, this is my 100th blog post!  Woohoo!!  I'm gonna go throw some confetti and eat cake now.

who said money can't buy happiness?

So, the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale started this week, and I ended up buying a bag I've been eyeing for a while.

It's this bag here.

I saw the bright neon colors and couldn't resist!  Plus, I love the neon trend so much, and I had been looking for a good neon bag that wasn't only cute, but functional and large enough to hold all my crap!
{I tend to end up carrying a lot of stuff around.}

the thing that's been dominating my week

Starbucks.

Not gonna lie - I really enjoy and appreciate my job as a barista at Starbucks.  It's great in all the ways I need a job to be for me at this point in my life.  Not to mention, the discount and free coffee while I work is something my wallet loves, as anyone who knows me will agree that I am a coffee addict.  It's kinda bad, but so so good, ya know?  Anywho.  I've been working hours that {while I'm positive will turn themselves into a fat paycheck next Friday} are quite time consuming.  Mixes of morning shifts, and afternoon/evening shifts have turned my blogging schedule upside down as I adjust to the new routine for summer.

But have no fear, dear blog.

I have not forgotten you, nor do I plan to neglect you.

I just gotta work out a schedule.

Coffee should help.

And as a little treasure to make up for the past couple days of nothing, and to provide insurance for any future dry spots, I gift to you all that fourth and final gem of a photo up there, as it is quite priceless, no?

in which I own a maxi skirt

Sweater: Delias / Skirt: Old Navy / Necklace: Nordstrom BP / Shoes: TOMS

I bought a maxi skirt.

That statement is something I never thought I'd be able to say for a couple reasons.  First of all, I have an issue with length, and any maxi skirt/dress I'm gonna wear must be longer than ankle length.  Like skimming the floor.  Second, I just never liked them that much.  Sure, other people wear 'em just fine, but they were definitely not for me.
So I thought.

When I started to actually consider purchasing a maxi skirt, I had some requirements.  First of all, I wanted something slightly more on the fitted side.  Not too flowy.  Second, I wanted a soft material, like jersey.  Third - length, length, length!!  I cannot say how hard it was to find one that not only I liked, but was also long enough.

Enter this skirt from Old Navy.

It was jersey.
It was fitted.
It came in long sizes!

I ordered it, fell in love, and now we live happily ever after.

top pot morning

Last night I had a couple friends over with the intention that this morning we would go on an early-ish {9 am is early, right?} morning breakfast trip to Top Pot Doughnuts & Coffee in downtown Seattle.  So that's exactly what we did.  I chose the old-fashioned glazed, because I love the density of old-fashioned donuts.  And Top Pot makes them best!

Another thing I missed about Seattle?

Those places unique to the Pacific Northwest, like Top Pot.

Anyone ever had a Top Pot doughnut before?
What's your favorite kind of doughnut?

week in color

  1. Spring flowers in my neighborhood.
  2. A soft and glowy Seattle sunset - and this summer, they'll be vibrant and bold!  One thing I missed while on the East coast.
  3. A beautiful bright dress with white lace {source} - so springy, and I love the contrast with the lush grass!
  4. Multicolor pastel ice cream {source} - making me want an ice cream cone so badly.
  5. Pairing neon with pastels.
  6. Dayglow {source} - it was in Seattle the other night and I wanted to go!  Doesn't it look fun??
  7. Bold, bright kitchen cabinets {source} - not sure if I would actually do my kitchen like this, but it's a fun idea!

pinterest cooking: the first attempt

As I've mentioned before, I love Pinterest.

One reason is because of all the great food and recipes.  So my friend and I decided to try out this Baked Lemon Pasta recipe...

The pasta turned out to be pretty good.  Simple enough to make, fairly quick, and it looked like the pictures showed, which is always a good sign!

The only thing I would do differently is add less sour cream {I'm not a huge fan to begin with, so take that with a grain of salt}.  I probably would have done one cup instead of two, though I'd also be curious to try it without the sour cream at all.

summer checklist

Cardigan: Nordstrom BP / Shorts: H&M / Belt: Nordstrom / Watch: Windsor / Sunglasses: UO / Pearls: Vintage

This summer might be my last summer in Seattle.  So, my goal for the summer is to live and experience it as such.  I came up with a summer bucket list, really more of a checklist, of things I want to accomplish by the time I leave for London.  Some I've done before, and some I never have. Some I want to do more than once, even routinely multiple times a week.

Summer Checklist

1.  Fourth of July in Roche Harbor - planned
2.  Multiple trips to the boat, making sure to do the following:
               - go sailing
               - go crabbing each time (if season is open)
               - bring friends at least once
               - picnic on Green Machine
3.  Walks/runs on Alki {sometimes with dog, sometimes with camera} - 3 times/week
4.  Picnic in park/on beach.
5.  Bonfire
6.  Some form of road trip, however big or small {Yellowstone, WA/OR coast, Mazama, Grand Canyon, etc.}
7.  Drive around aimlessly somewhere new - explore.
8.  Eat at Spud.  A lot.
9.  At least one music festival - Bumbershoot or at the Gorge (preferred, since I've never been).
10. "Formal" night out.
11.  Cactus happy hour {with Vita!}.
12.  Horseback riding {with Vita!}.
12.  A theme park?
13.  Birch Bay {and water slides}!
14.  See Rachel.  A lot.
15.  Pool party!  AKA go swimming.  Friends just make it more awesome.
16.  Jump off the high dive at Arbor Heights.
17.  BBQ
18.  Try to cook things.  Pinterest, anyone?
19.  Drive in movie!!
20.  Watch a sunrise.
21.  Happy hour with the peeps at Admiral Starbucks.
22.  Go to a farmer's market/street fair.
23.  Go to Pike Place Market.

I'm going to cross things off as I complete them, and maybe add more as I think of them.
But, by the end of the summer, every single thing should have a line through it.

Challenge accepted.

  2. Last time going to my room in Boston before moving out.
  3. I spent a lot of time in airports over the past week.
  4. Floridian sunset behind the palm trees.
  5. Honeydukes treats from the Wonderful Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
  6. Reunited with Nordstrom stores!  {Boston doesn't have any - a crime.}
  7. Reunited with Seattle!
  8. Reunited with my sister!
  9. Reunited with my pup!
  10. Reunited with my friends!
Don't get me wrong, I love going to school in Boston, and Florida was awesome, but I missed certain things about things from home.

the good kind of busy

Top: J.Crew / Pants: H&M / Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters / Watch: Windsor / Flats: Nordstrom

This adorable pup is Raleigh.

Blog, meet Raleigh.  Raleigh, meet blog.

I got back into Seattle on Thursday evening, and this weekend has been filled with meeting up with friends, hanging out with family, playing with the dog, and celebrating three major events...

Mother's Day
and
Mom's birthday
and
Dad's birthday

All in one jam-packed weekend!

Today, I'm getting to see my best friend, Rachel, who graduated this weekend from Gonzaga University.  So I guess that was four big things this weekend...

So glad to be back in Seatown!

week in color

  1. Hot pink Hunters {source} - I normally wouldn't go for this much pink, but I love these!
  2. Jewelry at a flea market in Florida.
  3. Colorful peppers at the market - who'da thunk that markets would be so full of color?
  4. Mint and gold watch {source} - yet another thing I'm lusting after....
  5. Purple flowers... again at the market!
  6. More flowers.  Because flowers are beautiful, especially at this time of year.
