not what you were expecting...

... but something that's been on my mind.

These lovelies.

I blame Pinterest.

P.S.  I know it's Friday, but I'm waiting on some potentially awesome and probably awkward pictures that would be making there way over here tomorrow, so I'll do Awkward & Awesome Friday tomorrow.

Again.

let's just talk about how awesomely crazy this week was

Saw Les Mis three nights in a row, four times total in Boston, five including the one time in Seattle.  And  I may not be done yet.

Got a picture with Joseph Speildenner, who plays Grantaire.  In't he cute?

Ran into Jeremy Hays (Enjolras) in the elevator and told him he was awesome.  Which was awesome.

I got an awesome grade on my history midterm.

Fell down twice today within 3 minutes.

Huge hair as a result of washing, drying, teasing, and wearing in a topknot for five hours.  We're talking Hairspray big hair.

I ate yummy sushi for dinner last night.  I mean yummy.

I have soooooooo much work to do for this final month of school that it makes me want to magic it done.  There's a spell or magic word for doing homework, right?

I finished a certain application, and am turning it in tomorrow.  Excitement, please!

A fun-filled weekend ahead with plenty-a-post to make up for the gap.
And because I got a lot in my head right now that needs out.
Out, out, out.

meeting Fran Kranz

Okay, first of all, excuse the awkwardness that is me in this picture.  The blasted wind today was crazy and my hair in this picture is reminiscent of the mullet {aka hair crime so bad it should get you fined}.

It's just not a good photo, except...

... for the fact that Fran Kranz is in it!  Next to me.  With his hand on my back.  Cue awesomeness all around, despite horrible hair and everything else.

For those of you who don't know who Fran Kranz is, I'll just say he played my favorite character, Topher Brink, on Dollhouse.  And he was here in Boston at the movie theater right around the corner to promote his new movie, Cabin in the Woods.  We weren't able to get in because it filled before we got there, but we ended up staying and watching a different movie, then waiting after as the other theater emptied.  He walked right past us, and I kind of awkwarded out of saying anything, but when we left and walked right past them, my friend spoke up to him and I ended up getting a photo.

Score on two counts!

1. For getting a photo with Fran Kranz.
2. For having an awesome friend!

awkward and awesome friday: one day later

Awkward
  • T-shirts that are plain in front, but then have ruffles all over the back.  Personally I can't help but see this as a metaphor for a hairy back.
  • Going to concierge because we ran out of toilet paper and having the lady tell me to just steal a roll from the lobby bathroom.
  • When I looked confused, said concierge lady leading me to the bathroom and handing me two rolls of toilet paper, then telling me to just smuggle them up.
  • Talking really intensely/quickly and accidentally spitting a bit {or a lot}.  I saw it, and I'm sure they saw it, but does anybody acknowledge it?  No.
Awesome
  • Sun, sun, sun!!  And warmth, warmth, warmth!  We're talking up to 80 degrees here - in March!  I can't even tell you.
  • My family came out to visit for a couple days!  I haven't seen them since early January, so it was awesome to hang out with the family for a bit.
  • The primary reason they all came out here: to see Les Miserables at the Boston Opera House, which was as amazing as I remembered from Seattle!  I especially love Jeremy Hays as Enjolras and Andrew Varela as Javert.  Les Mis has forever been my favorite musical, and my dream is to one day work on it in one capacity or another, whether as Stage Manager or stage crew.  One day.  Dream the dream, right?

21 March 2012

do you hear the people sing?

Because I sure can!  It's a heavenly choir, also known as the currently touring production of Les Miserables.  Which is my favorite musical of all time.

Favorite.  All time.

I saw this exact show in Seattle with my sister and cousins last summer before I moved to Boston, and loved it.  I grew up as a child listening to the music and watching the 10th Anniversary Concert, so to see it in Seattle was very special.  And then I moved here, and immediately checked to see if they'd already performed in Boston.  They hadn't, and as soon as tickets went on sale, I snatched those babies right up.  My parents and sister are flying in tomorrow and we're all gonna go see it Friday night!

I may or may not also be seeing it next Wednesday... {and by "may or may not" I mean I definitely am}

Now excuse me as I go sing on my own.

Haha, On My Own, get it?

bring out your shorts

Yesterday was seventy degrees and sunny!

{insert applause and cheering here}

I wore shorts and sandals, lunch comprised of cold lemonade and delicious fresh fruit, I did homework in the Commons, and it was the first day I really went out after being sick.  What a lovely day to become a real human being again {aka eating anything other than soup and saltine crackers, showering, and wearing something other than my pajamas}.

Again, you can insert applause.

And the best part is that it's supposed to stay aaaaaaallllll week long!

Welcome spring!  Together, you and I can tackle the second half of this semester, and before you know it, we'll be welcoming in summer, where the livin's easy.

a first

I won a giveaway!

Yesterday, I found out on one of my favorite blogs, The Daybook, that I had won last week's Beso Giveaway.  Beso is a one-stop shopping website that allows you to search specific stores and brands as well as through categories, being as specific or general as you want for products ranging from clothing to furniture to electronics.  You can mark products, brands and stores as favorites, as well as make collections to organize the products you like.

I'm obsessed!

So, imagine my surprise and delight when I found out I won the giveaway for $150 towards my own shopping wishlist!  I've never really won any kind of raffle/lottery/giveaway before so I was doubly excited!  Woohoo!

new york part 2: awkward and awesome

Part two of my spring break trip to NYC consists mainly of the views from the top of the Empire State Building, of which, believe me, pictures cannot do justice.  Also just a few from walking around the streets of New York.  And by the way, most of these awkward and {mostly} awesome tidbits are NYC-themed.

Awkward

  • Trying to spell "dontcha" {"dontchya"?}.  You know, the made up word that's a conjunction of don't and you.
  • Realizing your about to go the wrong way, and turning around to a whole crowd behind you about to run you over.  Also, making a weird squeaking sound when this happens.
  • Walking down the street, then realizing you're walking the wrong way, so you either cross the street and head back the way you came in order to avoid the awkward/embarrassing 180-degree turn, or look at your phone and fake that something urgent has come up and you must do a sudden stop and turn in the other direction.  Either way works, and either way, you're still awkward.
  • A bird pooping on you.  No, wait, that's just gross.
  • Getting sick on spring break.  In NYC.  Lemme tell you something'... it sucks.
Awesome
  • Free nutella snack packs from Boloco!  And the guys who gave them to us.
  • The Central Park Zoo.  Actually zoos in general are pretty awesome, especially if they have giraffes {the epitome of an awkward and awesome animal}.
  • Mint lemonades from Le Pain Quotidien are the most delicious and refreshing drink ever.  And super good when you're sick.  If only they had them in Boston...
  • Going to see Seminar again {long story in which neither Book of Mormon nor Phantom of the Opera had student tickets} and getting to meet Alan Rickman a second time!!!  I can die happy.
  • Jersey bagels are pretty scrumptious.  Just sayin'.
  • Super warm NYC weather!  I'm talking no jackets required, not super windy, sunny, almost 70 weather.  The season for shorts, sandals, and skirts/dresses without tights is upon us!
  • The first cherry blossoms of the year {pictured above}.  Aren't they a lovely sight?
Happy Friday!

new york part 1: central park zoo

So.  This week is my spring break, and I went to NYC with my friend, then down to her home in Jersey for the night.  These photos are only the ones from the Central Park Zoo because since I took so many, I figured they deserved their own post.  I'd never been to the zoo there {actually it's been a while since I'd been to one in general - I'd forgotten how fun they are!} and saw some really beautiful birds, a very shy snow leopard {hence the absence of those photos}, and some absolutely adorable red pandas.  Not to mention, those seals, which are quite the models.  They pose like pros.  They should get a Vogue cover.

Part 2 coming soon.
