JERRY SPRINGER: THE OPERA
A week and a half later and I'm back! Dude, this past 10 days had been so full of activity, I don't even know where to start. That's a lie. I'll start with the thing that's been 98% of that activity - Jerry Springer: The Opera for Balagan Theatre. I've been Assistant Stage Managing this show for the past month or so and immediately after the 1st of the year (literally, the next day), we began our tech week. The hours, the load of work that everyone involved has done, and the amount we've accomplished in such a short time has been absolutely insane.
10am work calls lasting through evening rehearsals and late night set work until 4, 5, 6 in the morning only to repeat again and again.... The earliest I've seen my bed this year is sometime around 2am. Even right now as I type this, it's 2:30 in the morning. That's how fucked up my sleep schedule is.
However, it's all been worth it. We opened our show, got through the first weekend of performances on little to no sleep, and with last minute building, painting, and sewing right up to the minute before opening the doors. But, we did it. And the show is absolutely amazing! Everyone involved has been so great and the sheer amount of dedication to the job and love we all have for theatre has been so prevalent that I can honestly say, without doubt or exception, that I am proud to work alongside such amazing people and for an amazing theatre company. Yesterday, I saw the first review for our show - the Broadway World review written by Jay Irwin. You can read it for yourself here. I recommend you do. I am so proud to be working on this show with these incredible people and I don't hesitate to say that if given the chance to work with them again, I would do so in a second. But I'm getting ahead of myself. First we have three whole days off to rest and recover, then another two weekends of performances to do!
